Collograph Printmaking

Collagraph is a flexible and experimental printmaking method that allows artists to both carve into the plate and build up surfaces using layered materials. The process combines relief and intaglio techniques, producing prints with rich textures, varied tonal values and expressive mark making possibilities.

During this 5-week course, you will learn the fundamentals of collagraph printmaking and explore ways to develop your own creative approach. The technique allows for a wide range of visual outcomes and encourages playful experimentation with materials and surfaces.

You will also be introduced to additional methods such as à la poupée and block printing techniques to enhance your prints and expand your understanding of layered colour and surface variation.

The sessions are 3 hours long and designed to provide a relaxed and supportive environment, allowing you time to experiment and develop confidence in this versatile printmaking method. Collagraph printing does not require the use of acids and uses environmentally friendly inks, making it a more accessible and sustainable printmaking process.
