Course Description

This course introduces mixed media as a way of working across multiple materials and techniques within one piece. It encourages experimentation, layering, and personal expression in a supportive studio environment.

Mixed media can include combining acrylic and watercolour with collage materials such as magazines or paper, fabric, textured materials, and handwritten text to build depth and meaning through layers. The course supports exploration of composition and surface development while building confidence working across different media.

Weeks 1-2
• Introduction to materials and techniques, including mark-making, collage, and layering basics
• Building texture and composition through impasto techniques, overlapping materials, and surface development

Weeks 3-4
• Developing personal themes and visual storytelling using references, text, and imagery
• Creating a final layered artwork, refinement, and group reflection

You will develop confidence working across materials and create a layered, expressive final artwork through experimentation and guided studio practice.
