Course Description

Explore a different art medium and artist each week in this practical 10-week course. Working with graphite, charcoal, coloured pencil, ink, gouache, watercolour, acrylics, oils and mixed media, you’ll discover how different materials behave while learning techniques inspired by influential artists and their approaches to making art. Through live demonstrations, hands-on experimentation, and individual tutor guidance, you’ll build technical confidence, explore your own creative responses, and discover which media you enjoy most.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Discover which media, tools and surfaces feel most natural to you, helping you make more confident choices in your own art practice.
  • Develop practical confidence in light, shadow, colour mixing, texture and layering across a wide range of drawing and painting media.
  • Gain hands-on experience with different materials and techniques through three hours of dedicated creative practice each week.
  • Explore your creativity in a relaxed, supportive environment alongside others interested in making and experimenting with art.
  • Create a collection of studies and a final mixed-media artwork, bringing together the techniques and materials explored throughout the course.
