Course Description

Ignite your creativity in our exciting printmaking relief course! This engaging workshop offers a fantastic introduction to both the basics and advanced techniques of lino printing, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow. 

You’ll be inspired as we guide you through practical demonstrations, providing step-by-step instructions on the use of equipment and techniques. We’ll start by honing your cutting skills while exploring line, tone, and texture to create stunning monochromatic prints. From there, you’ll dive into the vibrant world of colour, mastering the design, carving, and printing of linocuts. You’ll learn how to register different layers efficiently, allowing you to create breathtaking prints full of colour. 

Through a variety of hands-on exercises, you’ll gain confidence in mixing and manipulating colour, working with transparent layers to discover new tonal possibilities. By the end of the workshop, you will: 

• Grasp the essentials of relief printing and colour layering.
• Develop the confidence to design and carve your own blocks.
• Skilfully use cutting tools to produce a diverse array of marks.
• Create linocuts through the reduction method, achieving eye-catching colour gradients.
• Master multi-layer printing for fresh, textured results.
• Print effortlessly using a relief press and burnish by hand. 

 

We provide all the basic materials you need to get started. To elevate your experience, we encourage you to bring along visual inspiration -be it photos, postcards, sketchbooks, or drawings. Keep your design simple at first for a satisfying completed print, and as you attend additional sessions, watch your creativity flourish into more intricate and layered works.
