The Art Class for kids 7-14 at artCLASS London are perfect for children who love to paint!  We focus on a wide range of different painting techniques including dry brush, sponge brushes and soft brushes. As every painter knows, the key to a good painting is getting to know your brush and this is what the children who come to our classes get to do.

Acrylic painting is one of the most exciting painting mediums for children as it is so versatile. But without some knowledge of the basic techniques the effects can be muddled. Across several sessions I broke these down to according to the types of brushes, and just as important, how much water was added. For instance, acrylic paint can be layered using a technique called ‘glazing’ when the paint is applied with enough water to make it translucent. Or it can be applied thick with a technique called ‘dry brush’ in which the brush is kept intentionally dry.

Exploring different types of brushes, and different ways of using them, helps children to focus when they paint, and to choose what effect works best for them in that specific painting. This helps the children become not only more knowledgeable in painting techniques, but more intentional in their painting and better able to appreciate the different painting techniques used across art history.

If your child enjoys experimenting with paint, you can book a taster class to try one of our sessions, or explore our private lessons for more individual attention.”
