Course Description

This 5-week printmaking course introduces a range of techniques based on transferring marks and images from one surface to another to create unique and expressive compositions. Through practical studio sessions, you will explore a variety of tools, processes and creative approaches that can expand and support your art practice.

Suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced artists, the course provides a broad introduction to printmaking and encourages experimentation with different visual ideas and materials. Each three-hour session offers opportunities to develop technical skills while building confidence in your own creative direction.

During the course, you will explore:

Monoprint – a painterly print process combining drawing and painting methods to create one-off prints with expressive marks.

Collograph – a versatile printmaking technique that allows textured plates to be created using layered materials, producing rich tonal variation and varied mark making.

Drypoint – a direct and immediate technique using an etching needle to create lines and expressive marks on the printing plate.

Throughout the course, you will develop ideas, explore materials and gain practical skills that can be used for further printmaking work.

If you would like to explore collograph further, you may also be interested in our Collograph Printmaking course, also taught by Caroline Elliott, which focuses in more depth on this versatile textured printing technique.

Complimentary refreshments are provided, including coffee, a range of teas, and biscuits.
